The North Carolina Standard Course of Study provides students with skills and concepts to fulfill their greatest academic performance. Using five goals through eighth grade mathematics each child is given the opportunity to learn and understand each objective for their course curriculum. NCSCOS

8.1 Number Operations and Concepts
Students will represent and apply numbers in a variety of equivalent forms and in problem solving.
Students will use basic arithmetic operations on rational numbers.
Students will explain estimation and problem solving strategies.
Students will understand properties of operations with rational numbers.
8.2 Geometry
Students will classify one, two and three dimensional geometric objects and use the Pythagorean Theorem.
Students connect reasoning in identifying geometric relationships in problem solving.
8.3 Measurement
Students apply estimation and measurement of weight/mass with content problems and convert with metric units.
Students will use estimation and measurement of capacity/volume and convert with metric units.
Students use methods and units to solve problems with angles, perimeter, circumference, area and volume. MATH VIDEO
8.4 Algebra
Students will use the four basic operations of mathematical expressions.
Students will solve one and two step equations with integers.
Students will solve algebraic expressions and formulas given.
Students will create tables, graphs to solve simple equations.
8.5 Data Analysis and Probability
Students will organize, analyze and represent data using tables, charts and diagrams.
Students will calculate mean, median, mode and range for data sets.
Students predict, compare and calculate probable outcomes.
